During my 20+ year career as a Registered Nurse, I have learned much about observation. This, in my opinion, is the cornerstone of a writer's or photographer's talent. Even if someone learns to assemble a collection of words so they flow together nicely, without strong observational skills, there is nothing to say. This is equally true for fiction, non-fiction, and even academic or technical writing. I hold bachelors degrees in psychology, mass communications/public relations/advertising, and nursing. I also hold a masters degree in nursing administration and leadership.

1985 - present
I discovered I have a talent for writing in high school, where I took advanced English classes, and writing was paramount. I began writing poetry and short stories during that time as well. In college, I wrote and photographed for the university newspaper and yearbook in addition to writing advertising copy for a local gym as my senior project. Because I also majored in psychology, I was able to hone my academic writing skills as well. I am currently researching and writing daily at the graduate level as I pursue my Master of Science in Nursing.
In 2008 - 2010, I served as volunteer Public Relations Director for the Okinawan-American Animal Rescue Society. In this capacity, I wrote feature and advertising pieces that were regularly published in the local edition of Stars and Stripes newspaper. I also wrote weekly advertising copy for a locally oriented online magazine. I currently photograph as a hobby and have done some professional pet portraiture work as well.
Current projects include a memoir, a series of children's books, and a stand alone children's book.
Registered Nurse
1993 - present
In my work as a Registered Nurse I have the opportunity to help people at their most vulnerable - as they wake up from anesthesia following surgery. I consider it an honor and a privilege to ensure the safety and meet the needs of people who are rendered unable to care for themselves. As they wake, and let me into very private and unguarded moments, I am able to bond with them in a way few others can. It is a beautiful gift I have been given.
